Devices Auto Switching to Xfinitywifi

I am having an issue where my devices prefer and automatically switch from my network to the Xfinitywifi network, which I believe is the guest network. This can be frustrating because 1) I cannot print because my printer is now on a different WiFi network and 2) I’m concerned with security as the guest network does not have the same security as my primary network and I don’t have any way of knowing my device switched over unless I manually check WiFi settings. Is there a way to prevent the auto switching or should I just turn the guest network off? I rent my gateway from Xfinity and have the 6e model that came out recently.

@surragard  Thanks for sharing and letting us know about your devices connecting to the guest network instead of your home. You have the choice to stop the device from auto connecting, with the steps here https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/support/article/stop-phone-autoconnecting-wifi-hotspots, or disable the guest network with the steps here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/disable-xfinity-wifi-home-hotspot. Ideally the devices should only connect to public wifi when you're away from home, and we totally get if its frustrating when it is not doing so. I think having the wifi app on your phone, and relying on it to avoid using data when you're out and about is a great way to enjoy your service and features!

@XfinityBenny Any ideas on why this might be happening? I’m concerned that if the devices are preferring the guest network then that means it believes the guest network is a stronger signal than my primary network.

@surragard Great question! The device determines how it switches the wifi signal, so I would uninstall and reinstall the wifi app. If that doesn't help you'll want to make sure the phone is fully updated, or reset it to default settings. That way it ensures to use your home wifi as the main network, preferably. The public and private wifi networks have the same power, so it should rely on the home network first :). If it continues after that, it may be best to reach the mobile team to troubleshoot the device or how it prioritizes the networks it finds.
