Degraded service/timeouts

Hi, I’m experiencing intermittent timeouts and downgraded service (e.g., speed drops, buffers emptying, etc.). Typical situation is I load a webpage, the load stalls and/or timeouts. Usually a refresh or two on the website brings everything up. This issue is even more apparently when using streaming apps or video calls because I can get bumped out of those. I first noticed the issue a month ago after ~3.5yrs of flawless service using the same or similar equipment with Xfinity at other addresses (~5mo at my current address).

A few other observations… I have a Netgear CM2000 cable modem that stays connected throughout as far as I can tell, so it doesn’t seem to be completely dropping out or resetting (pasting some modem connection specs below). This problem was *much* worse prior to a recent tech visit (2nd visit) where the tech refitted some of the cabling/outlets in my apartment. That said, it’s still not great, and I’m hoping for additional support on this issue. Lastly, I’ll add that I purchased the CM2000 recently bcs the first tech Comcast sent out suggested the problem could be an issue with my older CM1000 modem, but I’m having the same problems with the new modem.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Is this with a WiFi connection ? If so, for a test, does a computer / device that is hardwired directly to the router with an ethernet cable have the same problem ?

With this test, we are trying to isolate this from being either a WiFi-only problem or a problem with the general connection to the Comcast system which would of course affect both. It's a good first step of troubleshooting before proceeding any further.

@EG My desktop has a wired connection and it’s affected by the issue I’m describing as well.

O/k. The signal stats are fine. Please also post modem error log entries in their entirety (copy and paste them) but you must redact the CM MAC and the CMTS MAC addresses for your privacy or else the forum bot will not allow your post to be seen publically.

I cleared my error log yesterday, but the only entries were from when the tech was connecting & disconnecting the device and refitting some of the cabling. Again, brand new device.

Perhaps there is noise ingress into the line(s) /  an upstream channel-return path impairment somewhere.

There are other signal stat figures that can't be read by the modem. They are the "Upstream Rx Power" (Upstream Receive Power Level), the "Upstream SNR Ch." (Upstream Signal To Noise Ratio), and the "Upstream ICFR" (In Channel Frequency Response). These are as equally important in diagnosing connectivity issues as are the modem's stats.

I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. They will be able to poll the CMTS to see whether or not everything is in the green zone, see your node / cable plant and modem health, and also see a history plot for the modem. You should get a reply here in your topic. Good luck !

Issue has gotten bad again, so I’m giving this thread a bump.

Are there any error event logs to display?  Post them.

@Johnb51 nothing of note - just a few messages related to a manual reboot of the modem this morning

FWIW. As I posted earlier, And as I already asked you to, if you do post the error log entries, copy and paste the text (don't post a screenshot). And you must redact the CM MAC and the CMTS MAC addresses for your privacy or else the forum bot will not allow your post to be seen publically.
