Content Filtering at the Router Level
Hello. I am looking for a router level website content filtering option. I want to filter out several specific websites beyond the "category" level most services/providers have. for example, I want to specifically filter "www.EOEOI.com" (example only) for all devices connected to my router.
I have a motorola 8703. I have tried the Motosync app, however the content filtering does not work as published (tested on 3 different neighborhood networks and 6 different devices - ipad, iphone, windows 10 pc etc..). I would much rather handle this filtering at the router level, but my router does not have content filtering - Motorola took it out in lue of the Motosync app.
I have also tried OpenDNS, however it is hit/miss - sometimes it blocks a website, sometimes it does not. I need a consistent, QA tested solution rather than advertising sites saying they can do everything from solving hunger to a trip to Mars.
I would rather not touch each device... and handle this "content filtering of websites" for any/all devices on my home network. I do not have any advanced devices beyond Alexa, a few smart switches and the Ring on the doors.
If anyone has a hardware or cloud based suggestion that is working for you on comcast/xfinity pipes, please let me know
Thank you in advance

Since you have your own equipment, you could look at making a Pi-Hole. This would let you accomplish what you're setting out to do. Watch out though, devices can evade just about any filtering by using another DNS server, technologies such as DNS over TLS (DoT)/DNS over HTTPS(DoH) (Known as Private/Secure DNS), iCloud Private Relay, VPNs, etc.
Some devices will use what's called a hardcoded DNS server (one that's baked into the OS rather than one assigned by DHCP). Android does this IF it only gets ONE DNS server from DHCP. Some apps (TikTok for example) will use Google's DoH servers if it is unable to reach any of it's domains normally, rendering most filtering completely useless. To fully stop such circumvention takes a lot of technical know-how and specialized kit to accomplish (Such as a router with custom firmware OR a full fledged firewall solution such as pfSense/Fortigate/etc).
