Connection issues with remote desktop connection (rdp)
I am working from home and since i have switch to xfinity i have been having major connection issues with rdp (remote desktop connection). When i try to connect to my station in the office and use google maps or other programs my connection to the office will drop. I have turned off advance security settings, updated all programs and software, use ethernet and just regular wifi, talked to our IT department but nothing is working. Woud OpenGl have any conflicts with xfinity? Any suggestions?

Just for clarity, are you launching a VPN connection into your work, and then accessing the desktop there via RDP, or did your IT department expose RDP directly to the internet?

Ok good. (shudder if not....)
In theory, what should happen, is you should have a static route that redirects all of your traffic through the VPN connection when it's established. If you then try to access any site, all of your traffic should run through their equipment. If you ask your IT about it, the client side should have a directive "redirect gateway df1" or sometimes "redirect gateway df1 bypass-dhcp" if you are using tunnel back on MAC. The server side should be trying to PUSH a route -- push "remote gateway vpnserver_ip". The thought is perhaps your IT doesn't have your client configured correctly.
The other thing that happens is if your connection is kind of bad, you are flooding the connection when you access something off the company site, then your RDP connection stalls and dies.
You can take a look at your own gateway/modems stats and the coax connection itself. Admin page at http://10.0.0.1 for xfinity stuff. 3rd party gateways might be something else (http://192.168.0.1, etc). What are you looking for? Signal power levels, uncorrectable errors, signal to noise, see if the channels are able to lock -- upstream in your case especially for your VPN connection: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/internet/answered-tips-for-troubleshooting-your-xfinity-internet-connection/602da481c5375f08cd7fbb7c Take a look at the error logs in the gateway too. The link provides some explanation.
I guess I'd start there. Try a speed test when you are connected to your VPN link too. Any 3rd party site. See if it's pathetically slow.
