Connection drops when working upstairs

Back story: My Xfinity Router/Modem is in my living room. I've been working from home since March, upstairs at my desk which is almost directly above where the router/modem is, give or take a few feet. In all the years I've worked at my desk I never had connectivity issues up here until say early May. I would notice my work laptop reconnecting to the VPN and a couple of times it's just constantly disconnected and reconnected to the internet. I got a new laptop from work...the other one had issues aside from connectivity.

What could be the matter if I still get connection drops upstairs with this new machine? Is my Xfinity router getting old? Something making my signal weaker so not being in the same room as the router causes drops? What are the possibilities here? Do I need a signal booster up here to help keep connected? I'm just looking for options to explore on my end so that I can do my work from home without all the downtime due to connection problems.

For a test, does a computer hardwired directly to the router / gateway device with an ethernet cable have the same problem ?

And it isn't very consistent either.....some days I can work all day up here with no issues, but other times like Monday I spend the whole day arguing with it, getting dropped from Teams meetings, unable to do my job unless I sit on the living room floor.

If I can find an extra ethernet cable I'd hard-wire but I don't have one. I don't seem to have trouble with my phone or tablet up here, but I don't use them 8-10 hours a day straight for work. I've been having trouble again this morning with losing my connection....this is really the only place in the house where I can work comfortably and I never had this problem before 2ish months ago. I've checked all my cables and connections ot the router/modem and other Xfinity devices...everything else works fine...I just can't keep a consistent connection up here all of a sudden. I don't seem to have the problem if I sit on the floor next to the router, but I can't work like that all day. This has never been a dead zone before so I'm at a loss for why it suddenly is.

Some tips for improving WiFi performance;

There are other options. Google for WiFi repeaters / range extenders, WiFi mesh systems / pods, powerline ethernet adapters, MoCA adapters. Good luck !

I have the xfi pods coming via UPS.....since I'm not getting anywhere with my service chat I figured they are worth a shot. I'm still curious though why all of a sudden I'm having so much trouble since early May/late April? I've never had this trouble before and I've used Xfinity internet/equipment for several years. I don't want to keep throwing money at a problem I didn't create.

I've tried all of these tips and nothing helps.....I've not added any devices, changed anything in my home and my connection still randomly drops. I've been on a 2-day Messenger chat with Xfinity and nothing has changed. They say everything looks fine and sending a signal doesn't help. I see a lot of similar posts on here so it seems this is a common problem...how do we solve it? I'm sick and tired of getting kicked out of meetings and not being able to work for sometimes hours at a time.

Hi - did the xfi pods resolve your issue? We are having the exact same scenario. Upstairs wifi going dead all of a sudden when it was working perfectly before. We got a different/cheaper wifi extender but that didn't do anything. Wondering if the xfi pods are any more powerful. Thank you!
