Connecting Dell Laptop to Xfinity WiFi XB7
After some issues with my previous Xfinity gear, yesterday I installed the XB7 router/gateway. The process was pretty simple. All previous settings were migrated over quite easily and we were off to the races again. In fairness there was one little resistor - the Sonos 1 - but that thing's always been a bit odd. No worries connected it via ethernet and set it up that now it works wirelessly.
The issue showed up with my wife (enterprise) work laptop. She can see the SSID, and it appears to connect briefly ( 5-10 sec ) and the boots her.
Does the XB7 still support all the legacy types of WiFi modes (e.g. A, B, G) as the XB6?
I've also heard rumors that certain Dell laptops not being able to connect to certain channels of the router. I hope this is not the case because Xfinity has removed our ability to control this. If that is the case I'll be forced to buy 3rd party - no problem - everyone has tons of extra cash right now.

You can try to set your WiFi card to under mode to G, it will probably say auto, go to device manager, double click network adapters, double click on your WiFi card, then the advanced tab, look fir something like mode or similar, set it to G

Why would the XB7 be different than the XB6 in that regard. When I installed the new modem it migrated all the settings over. In theory it should just work.

When I installed my Xb7 it asked if I wanted to use the settings from my Xb6, I said yes, after the install everything of mine did connect automatically, so yours should have, I don't know how you had your Xb6 setup, the Xb7 combined the 2 WiFi bands into one, some WiFi cards don't play nice with that setup, that's why I made that suggestion

exactly, i have mine setup the same way, works best for me, i have 2.4g only devices also

On the XB6, (and now on the XB7) I had/have them separated out with different SSIDs and password. I know the gateway advises against this, but I like to be in control. There are specific devices in my home that MUST run on 2.4Ghz and I can't be sure that the gateway is always going to make the right decision.

I had upgraded to the new modem and was having issues. I was trying to connect an Alienware Area 51 with no success. Xfinity told me that I should go back to the older modem and decrease my speed. They also said they hoped a fix would be coming in a couple of months. Mind you this was on June 27, 2021. Seeing that this comment was left over 5 months ago, I am now not holding my breath.
