Connecting a Wii console to my xFi router

Hello,

I've recently been motivated to boot up my Wii console again to play Mario Kart Wii. To my surprise, despite the Nintendo WFC servers shutting down in 2014, this community is still alive and has created an online server to continue online play. My problem here, though, is connecting to my xFi Router.

The Wii is a very old router, and after some research, I found out that it only supports 2.4 GHz Wifi and an 802.11g wireless mode and below. My router has different names for the 2.4 and 5 GHz connection, so the Wii can only recognize the 2.4 GHz wifi. After entering the wifi password, it is unable to connect. Therefore, I believe the problem to be the fact that my 2.4 GHz connection lists its wireless mode as 802.11g/n, and that is incompatible with the Wii. Apparently, Comcast has disabled the option to change Wifi modes, so my only temporary option is to use a mobile hotspot coming from my laptop which is connecting to my wifi. This connection is very poor, and I frequently disconnect from the games that I play.

I am currently looking for a better alternative to this connection. Some options I thought of were using a USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter to plug an Ethernet cord to my Wii from my router. Also, I could get a Wifi range extender that has an 802.11g mode. However, I would prefer the most cost-effective option anyone can offer to me.

Thank you.
