Connecting a Ting Electrical sensor
My home insurance company has provided me with a Ting sensor that can monitor my electrical systems for arcing and help prevent fires.
I have tried the troubleshooting suggestions to connect the Ting sensor to my internet. After each attempt, I disconnected the Ting sensor and went through the whole procedure to reconnect it.
The result after each attempted troubleshoot was that the Ting sensor could connect to my network, but it could not establish communication with the Ting network.
Each time, I got the following error from the Ting company:
The error received indicates that something is blocking Ting from being able to communicate properly with our servers. This is likely caused by a Firewall or “Web Filter.”
The Ting customer service has recommended the following to me:
I recommend contacting Xfinity and providing them with the following so that they may assist.
We recommend referring to your router manual or contacting your Internet Service Provider to verify that the following ports are enabled for outgoing traffic.
Specifically, this link must not be blocked: https://spvsr.wtng.io/test
Some routers have various security levels which can be adjusted. High security typically blocks most traffic to the internet except the normal channels needed for visiting websites and email. We recommend lowering the firewall security level until you find the setting that best works for your device. Typically, a “Medium” security setting will allow Ting to function normally.
So I feel that I have tried these suggestions, but I have not tried more than one at a time. However, I am reluctant to open the ports and remove Advanced Security at the same time unless someone at xfinity tells me that is not terribly risky.
Can anyone offer suggestions to help me connect the Ting sensor so that it can communicate with the Ting servers without leaving gaping holes in my network security?
Or perhaps it is not worth the risk and I should send the sensor back to Ting.
WHAT I HAVE ALREADY TRIED:
Troubleshoot attempt #1: I have set up port forwarding on the following channels. When I did this, the ting sensor still did not work and I received 15 security notifications from xfinity that bad actors from multiple countries had tried to access these ports. Because they did not help the Ting sensor, I removed the ports.
The Ting sensor needs to communicate over the Internet via two TCP/IP Channels:
Communication Protocol: UDP
Communication Port: 9500 and 9503
AND
Communication Protocol: TCPCommunication Port: 443 (HTTPS) and 80 (HTTP) (Outgoing traffic only)
Troubleshoot attempt #2: I tried changing from WPA3 Personal to WPA2. When this did not help the Ting sensor to connect, I changed back to WPA3 Personal
Troubleshoot attempt #3: I tried turning off Advanced Security. When this did not help the Ting sensor to connect, I changed back to Advanced Security.

Ah ha! I found the option for high/normal/low security and changed to the normal security level and the sensor started working.
I found it by logging onto the router directly rather than using the xfinity app.
