connecting a second wired router ASUS RT-AC68R

I use your gateway router/modem.   I have a dead spot at one end of the house, and I have a Cat 5 cable from the gateway to a closet near the dead spot.    I have tested the cable on a PC and it is good.   I own an ASUS RT-AC68R and have googled how to set up a second router.   I have logged into your gateway at 10.0.0.1, but I am hesitant to make changes.   Do you have an article explaining what gateway setting changes I should make?   I basically just want the ASUS to serve as a wired repeater.   I know you sell xFi pods, but I would prefer not to spend $125 when I own the ASUS and have a cable.   Thank you

Most Asus routers support 'Access Point' (AP) mode, which is basically a wired repeater.

Not sure how compatible Xfinity gateways are with 3rd party APs though.

Google is your friend here, but one interesting conversation about APs is here: Same SSID on router and Access Point?

@RB_MD Thank you for the link.   I have an amateur understanding of the extender/access point pros and cons.   I am ok with using it as an extender, it's only me and my wife in the house and we are relatively low-data users.   Seamless connectivity is attractive.   Frankly my most immediate need is just getting good signal to a garage door opener.   Beyond that it would be nice if our devices would stop dropping wifi and shifting to LTE data at that end of the house.   I've watched several how-to videos, I understand I need to make DHCP and IP assignment changes.   But there are a million settings on the gateway, and I'm just leery of tinkering without specific detailed instructions.    I was hoping this would be a common enough request that xfinity would have an article already written.    Thank you again.
