Connect router to gateway in bridge mode

Hello!

I have an Netgear Nighthawk (R7600) router that I want to use to provide WiFi, instead of using the gateway. I was following this guide: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/wireless-gateway-enable-disable-bridge-mode

The router is the only device connected to the gateway, but it is not able to connect to the internet. I power-cycled both devices, waiting 10 mins for each device, and no luck. Is there an additional configuration for the gateway to support this configuration?

I was able to fix the issue.

The problem was that I bought the router second hand. I looked up the manual for the router and there was a setup process. So I factory-reset the router, used the setup wizard, put the gateway in bridge mode, and everything worked. I think the issue was that the router was on AP mode instead of router mode.

Thanks for all the help, this issue is solved.

 Hello, @user_8ddt0o. I'm sorry to hear you're not able to connect your router even after power cycling both devices. There are no additional configurations available other than the ones you see in the link you shared.

I would be more than happy to review your account to see what I can do to help on my end. Please send a direct message by clicking the chat icon in the upper right corner of the page, click on the pen and paper icon, then enter “Xfinity Support” in the “To” section.

I tried again, and it seems the issue is with the router itself. @XfinityRaul can you trouble shoot from your end why that might be happening?

If I connect my Mac directly to the gateway in bridge mode, the mac is able to get an IP address and connect to the internet. However, the router itself is not able to get a valid IP address. The router is configured to request an IP for the ISP, but it is not able to get one (I'm connecting a gateway LAN port into the routers WAN port, but no luck)

Try power-cycling everything again in this order;

Shut down the computer connected to the router.
Power down / unplug the modem and the router.
Allow them to sit for 60 seconds unplugged.
Plug in the modem first and allow it to completely boot up until the indicator light(s) on it show a steady connection (lit steadily).
Plug in the router and let it fully boot up and sync with the modem.
Start the computer and allow it to completely boot up.
Any joy ?
