Concerned about XB8 firewall settings getting changed on reset

This happens too frequently to be a fault and appears to be a default setting for the gateway, when it resets/restarts on command from Xfinity. It continually drops from medium setting, which is where I set it. to low setting, which doesn't provide as much security. Has anyone else noticed this and is it something that should be fixed by mfg or xfinity, so the firewall settings stay where the customer wants it set? TIA

It's erratic, which really is frustrating, for me, since I worked as an electronics troubleshooter and repairman, as well as computers. I'll keep in touch, though and see if it repeats, through the end of the year. Long time, I know, but I'll get a decent sampling of frequency, over the next two weeks.

Sounds like a plan. This should not be something that changes on a reset. This post will stay open to feel free to check back in with an update later, and we can dig deeper into it if it is a continuing issue.

Okay, I've noticed that on daily resets, the local login (admin & password) get cleared from the gateway. Even though I've selected it, to be able to login, I can't do that, even after resetting the gateway, so I should be able to get in using the default password on the label on the bottom of the gateway. There isn't a provision to select firewall settings in the phone app, either.

All Wi-Fi devices drop off the gateway, periodically throughout the day and reconnect. Devices are two iPhones (14 Pro & 15 Pro Max), Samsung tablet and a Canon MX922 printer. Computer is hardwired and does not have this problem.

user_u1aaq0 Hello and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community Forums. I am so sorry for the frustration these Wi-Fi drops are causing. I know how disruptive it is when your iPhones and tablet disconnect throughout the day, especially when you need a reliable connection. Since your hardwired computer works perfectly, we know the internet signal reaching your home is strong. The issue is likely a communication "hiccup" between the gateway and your wireless devices.

Here are three quick ways to fix this:

  • Restart via Xfinity App: Open the app and select "Troubleshoot." This will automatically clear any signal congestion and move your devices to the cleanest wireless channel available.

  • Check Placement: Ensure your gateway is out in the open, elevated, and away from large metal objects or other electronics that can interfere with the signal.

  • Test the Printer: Older devices like the Canon MX922 can sometimes cause network lag. Try turning it off temporarily to see if your iPhones stabilize.

If you are still having issues, please let us know and will continue to troubleshoot with you.
