Comcast Won't AcknowledgeProblem With Their Gateways | IPv6 INPUT drops | WANATTACK | TG4482A | XB7 | Internet Drop | Packet Loss | Arris
It's well documented across the internet that Comcast gateways, in particular their newest XB7 (I'm not including the Xfi Complete because that has been pulled off the market due to not being able to implement their data cap in the Northeast), has a serious code issue. Hundreds upon hundreds of Xfinity forum posts (always closed without any response or help from Comcast) as well as hundreds of posts on sites like Reddit and DSLReports from users frustrated that their internet has (at best) packet loss to (at worst) actual loss of connectivity to the internet. You can turn off IpV6 on their routers but the problem is that IPv6 is hardcoded into their gateway so turning Ipv6 off through the gui does not actually turn it off, as evidenced by the firewall logs on their gateways where you will see countless messages like these:
FW.IPv6 INPUT drop , 1128 Attempts, 2021/11/8 10:54:17 | Firewall Blocked | |
FW.IPv6 FORWARD drop , 5 Attempts, 2021/11/8 08:53:40 | Firewall Blocked |
Comcast is definitely aware of the problem (which has existed for years) and refuses to acknowledge the issue.
Why do the employees who monitor these forums do nothing about this? Are they being directed to not assist people with this issue because obviously they are aware of it.

yuck. Dump the comcast modem/router combo if it doesn't work, and grab a docsis 3.1 modem and an R7000(or better) switch/router. Install fresh tomato. you won't look back.

Yesterday we started noticing that our VoiP phones stopped working, the TV streams froze continuously and the computers connected through WiFi stopped connecting to the internet. We checked all cables, rebooted the Xfinity modem several times, called Xfinity support and nothing helped. We checked the Firewall logs and noticed FW.IPv6 INPUT drop, 47,915 attempts, and FW.WANATTACK DROP, 2061 attempts. We asked for a technician to come.
Today the technician came and changed the modem. Immediately everything started working perfectly. When the technician was gone, we did notice some freezes on the TVs, so we checked the Firewall log of the new modem. So far 356 attempts. Considering the time that the technician changed the modem at, I estimate we will have 1000 FW.IPv6 INPUT drop attempts per day. I guess we can live with that for now.
Shame that Xfinity has not solve this problem until now.
The good news: I spoke to the technician after he left and complained about this issue. He said that he heard at a meeting that Xfinity was going to release a new 1 Gig modem in about 2 weeks (beginning of April 2022). Hopefully that modem will not have the same issue as the 1 Gig modems of today.
