Comcast Gateway xb7 Won’t Allow More Than 10 Devices On WiFi

I recently changed out my Netgear CAX80 for the Comcast Arris Xb7 because after 3 tech visits they determined it must be the Netgear gateway that was causing my intermittent internet. In any event, I noticed that I can only get 5 devices on the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz each for a total of 10 devices on WiFi. It won’t allow any more and I was told by Comcast Tier 2 tech support to go to Walmart to get an extender and that would allow me to add more devices. I’m not an IT person but this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me unless the extender acts like an access point or somehow allows the devices to use the same IP address. When I look up the specs on this gateway it says I should be able to host 75 clients on each signal. Why can I only get 5 devices on each signal? Is it really not a configuration issue?

I just ran into this. I think that they're using some firmware on the device to deny the amount of connected devices... i had a ton of issue with my Arris, and I'm betting their harder isn't handling a lot of devices well, so to limit that issue - and probably number of calls they get, they're just limiting the number of wi-fi connected devices. Getting another router would balance the 'load' on the gateway, if it can't handle the number of connections. The hardware for the Arris must not be great, because 10 devices is not a lot. Still looking to see if I can get around this using the primary gateway. Whats really frustrating is that if I start having issues with my network, the first thing Xfinity is going to ask is, "who's router are you using." Well apparently the router supplied by Xfinity, is garbage so now they are telling people to get their own.....

I completely agree with the above comment. I called customer support and they explained that I can't have more then 10 devices connected to the modem including the wired connections. In order to get all the device connect which holds up to 11 may be 13 if pushing it, then I should chance my monthly plan to $69.99. Right now I am on the very basic plan which is $35.57 and that connect not more then 10 or less. No complains with the internet speed so far. However, 10 is really less what they offers, specially if you have kids in the house.

I am using there modem which came with the plan. Model # XB3.

Hope this help you all.

Hello @NuttyAstroPea! Thank you for sharing your experience with us here on the Xfinity Community Forum. That's odd. I can see why this would be frustrating. I'd like to take a look at your account, speeds, signals, etc. to see if there is something that would be causing this.
