Coax issue

Have tried to get xfinity to change my outside cable which has 2 connections with a poorly looking wire in between but they insisted it was a router issue so i changed my plan and rented one from them and wifi is still lag spiking for a couple seconds multiple times a day, everyday, while 2 gaming devices are running. (800mbps speeds)

Hello, @user_f2b384 Can you detail for us how those gaming devices are connected?

While there may be numerous underlying reasons why a player experiences lag, they can be summarized as insufficient hardware in either the client or the server, or a poor connection between the client and server. Hardware-related issues cause lag due to the fundamental structure of the game architecture. Have you tested the latency of your internet connection by using https://speedtest.xfinity.com? Anything below a ping of 20ms is considered to be great, while anything over 150ms could result in noticeable lag.  There are steps you can take to resolve lag issues:

Move closer to the router. ...

Close any background programs and websites. ...

Reduce the number of devices using Wi-Fi. ...

Use local servers. ...

Connect your device to your router via an Ethernet cable. ...

Restart your router and modem. ...

Replace your router.

Use local servers. Playing on a server in your country (or, more specifically, on your side of the country) will dramatically decrease your ping if you're used to playing on other countries' servers. While you may have to sit in a lobby for a few minutes before you can join a game, the higher performance is worth the wait. Many games allow you to sort game servers by location or country. This can help you connect to the closest server possible.

Both are through wifi, one on 2.4Ghz and one on the 5ghz to try and see if using different bandwidth’s would solve the issue. The hardware they sent is supposed to be rated for my wifi speeds, they said my old one wasn’t docsis 3.1 modem so i just rented one from the store. The ping doesn’t appear bad until you’re playing then it shoots from 40ping too the 100’s and that causes it to lag out and occasionally just kick you out of the lobby or game

The primary differences between the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies are range and bandwidth. 5GHz provides faster data rates at a shorter distance. 2.4GHz offers coverage for farther distances but may perform at slower speeds. Would you be able to hardwire those devices directly to the modem using an ethernet cable?

Sadly no the devices aren’t within direct plugin distance, but the lag that happens happens on both networks at the same time, have got system log saying “commit to store”

Have you had a chance to reboot your system recently? Also, keep in mind wireless speeds are not guaranteed. A lot of factors can affect your speeds. To ensure the highest speed we always recommend using a hard-wired device. Have you tried to clear the cache and cookies?

Yes and I’ve only had it like 2 weeks, the speed is good but the consistency of it is not
