CM3000 – repeated T3 timeouts, SYNC failures, intermittent disconnects
I have a NETGEAR CM3000 (DOCSIS 3.1, firmware V6.01.04) in VA on the 1.2 Gig plan. Download is fine (~1.5 Gbps) and upload is normal for my plan (~38 of 40 Mbps) when stable. The problem is repeated upstream instability:
- Event log: 27+ Critical T3 timeouts over ~33 days and escalating, including "16 consecutive T3 timeouts while trying to range on upstream channel 1 – retries exhausted," plus multiple SYNC timing failures
- Intermittent full disconnects; during these, upload collapses under 2 Mbps and latency spikes to 500ms+
- Upstream transmit power elevated at ~43 dBmV (on a ~10 ft drop, no splitters)
- Downstream clean (31 channels locked, good SNR/power, zero uncorrectables), but the OFDM channel shows very high correctable counts
- A technician already visited and confirmed the outside plant/drop are clean; issue persists
- Modem is on firmware V6.01.04 (successor to the pulled V6.01.03)
Please investigate upstream noise/ingress or a node-side issue, check my return-path SNR, and advise whether a firmware rollback to V5.0.x is possible. Reboots don't resolve it — please escalate beyond tier-1.

Hello @user_cb0tlj thank you for reaching out on our community forum. Are you noticing these issues during any specific times of the day? Also, when this happens have you attempted any other troubleshooting?

Please circle back here and post any possible solutions for the issue here in these open public forums so that all readers here may benefit from the exchange / info. This is in keeping with the spirit for which these public help forums were originally intended. Thank you.

I am having the exact same issue with the exact same hardware. I too have completed these troubleshooting steps. Another tech visit is scheduled. Please keep this thread updated thank you!

Consolidating a pattern from this thread: several of us are on the same modem (NETGEAR CM3000, several confirmed on firmware V6.01.04), reporting the same core problem. Repeated T3 timeouts, SYNC failures, intermittent disconnects, and latency spikes. In every case a technician has been out and found the plant, drop, and signal fundamentally sound (in one case levels were adjusted with an attenuator), yet the instability persists.
It's primarily on the upstream/return path. We're seeing T3 ranging failures, and for several users OFDMA that won't lock, profile renegotiation (one customer documented OFDMA profiles flapping), and DRW violations. Downstream is largely clean, with occasional sync loss.
Different homes, different locations, same modem, same upstream behavior, clean lines. That points away from our premises. We're not claiming to know the exact root cause. We're asking you to investigate it at the network level: the CM3000/CMTS interaction, provisioning, and/or the V6.01.04 firmware.
Your techs keep confirming the lines are fine, and you've declined to roll back the firmware, so every part you're willing to touch has been ruled out, yet the problem continues. Right now no one is taking ownership of fixing it. Please escalate to network/CMTS engineering, not another field tech, to review upstream provisioning, bootfile assignment, DRW violations, and OFDMA profile flapping on the affected modems, and whether they're stuck retrying a failing OFDMA lock. Please confirm whether this is a known CM3000 issue and give affected customers a ticket number with status back here. @Nebby5k , @user_0oyf6r
