CM2000 not connecting to xfinity

I am upgrading to a CM2000 Netgear Modem. It will not connect to app. Chat support says it is a wiring issue and is sending a technician out tomorrow. The old modem works on the same coaxial line. I know in past years that I would call a support number, give them the MAC number and they would activate it over the phone. Is there anything I can do to speed up this process and NOT have a tech come out?

Oops.  That last one got marked private from the bot -- try this again.

The Netgear won't work with the app, that's for comcast stuff.  There is a captive portal, so hook up to coax to the netgear (when it's powered off).  Plug a PC/Laptop into it.  Reboot PC and Netgear.  Wait about 5 minutes.  Try to navigate anywhere with a browser or try the admin IP address  192.168.1.1

It should redirect you to an activation page.  You'll need the HF MAC/serial info on the sticker on the bottom of the Netgear.  I had one cooked by lightning, and that page didn't work for me, I had to call.  There used to be an activation number (spelled out to avoid bot)  one . eight five five. six five two. three four  four six.  Maybe that isn't there anymore.

If not, one 800 comcast is the front door.  Tell them you need to activate a device.  Hopefully, you'll get transferred to the right place.

@flatlander3  I did as you said and nothing. Captive port, no. Activation page, nothing. Called, guy worked on it, stated that he put the model number everything in the system with no help. I have a technician scheduled between 3-5 today to come to the house. Keeping my fingers crossed.

thank you for the suggestions.
