Cloud backups with Xfinity?

Does anyone perform cloud backups of their computer?    with asymmetric speeds (slow uploads) I can imagine backups taking a while.  And of course, if internet limits come back that would kill it.

Curious if a lot of folks out there use cloud/on-line backups.      (I'm on a mac FYI)

thanks

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us regarding Cloud back up and your internet upload speeds. We are currently working on increasing upload speeds in certain areas. You can review the following link for more details on this and the speed packages and requirements that will be available to you https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/wiki/knowledgebase/next-generation-internet/#wiki_next_generation_internet. We do also have our XFi complete services which allow for unlimited data options if the data cap is a concern you can get more details on these options through this link https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/data.

Cheap advice?

All cloud backup anything does is expose your personal data to a 3rd party that is about to have a data breach.  They all do sooner or later.  If you ONLY use local copies, then you have to be served with a warrant to get your data, unless your Constitutional rights were violated.

This is especially important in a cancel culture, or when that 3rd party decides they will comply with 'any random request' for your data by any interested party.

What is a legit backup plan?  Make a backup.  Make a copy.  Make another copy and put that one off-site.  Bonus if you encrypt it, and YOU are the only person with a copy of the private key that knows the paraphrase to unlock it.

Then your "upload speed" -- well.....it just doesn't matter.

@flatlander3 but you're not bitter?

I do indeed have several backups, but offsite can be a challenge.   and technically all you say is true.   If I do backup to the cloud, i'd have a service where I can choose what to backup and not just throw everything on a cloud.   but no tan inappropriate warning.
