Changing my router - two questions

I have xfinity cable service with my own compatible modem (Arris SB8200).

I will the replacing the router currently connected to with a newer one (new one is a mesh based router).

My questions:

1. Do I need to do anything other than

- (1) turn off the current router

- (2) turn off the modem

- (3) unplug old router from modem

- (4) plug in new router to modem

- (5) turn on modem

- (6) turn on new router

to reestablish my internet connection via the new router?

2. This is a more philosophical question. For those who have changed routers, what procedure have to used to quickly get your current wireless devices connected to the new router? For example,

after verifying I have internet service with the new router, I would update its network configuration to match that of my old router (SSID, password, DHCP etc), and the wireless devices should then just reconnect to the new network. Does that make sense, or might there be a better process? In my case I have 30+ wireless devices that I need to move over.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
