Change WiFi Channel

Good afternoon,

I'm having trouble with speed to my main device. How can I change my WiFi channel to #1?

Thanks,

Carter

Hello @cm33333, thanks for reaching out for help with your home networking!

If you go here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/change-wifi-mode-admin-tool-xfinity-xfi, we have a helpful guide on how to change your home network's WiFi channel selection or mode.

From that document:

In the Xfinity App

  1. Open the Xfinity app and sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.
  2. Go to the WiFi tab.
  3. Select Wifi Details.
  4. Select Edit WiFi settings.
  5. Select 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi.
  6. Select Edit next to the WiFi band you want to update.
  7. Select the new WiFi Mode and/or Channel setting.
  8. Select Save to save your new settings.

If you run into any trouble or have any questions, please let us know!

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for the reply!

For my Gateway, neither the Xfinity app nor the admin tool appears to be an option.

In the app, there is no option to edit WiFi bands. In the admin tool, the option to change these channels is grayed out and apparently locked by Xfinity.

Is there another way?

Thanks,

Carter

@cm33333 I apologize for the confusion and that the options are grayed out. From my understanding, our Xfi system auto-selects the best channel and manages the channels automatically for every device connected to your network, so there wouldn't be an option to adjust the channels outside of purchasing your own modem that has the capability. From the Xfinity app and admin tool, the only channel adjustment you can make would be separating the 2.4 and 5.0 bands by naming them individually, instead of having one WiFi network that automatically connects to the best option. That can also be limited if you have xFi Complete as it would no longer be available to separate due to the service requirements.

This cannot be the final answer. Are you able to change the WiFi to channel 1 on your end?

We do want to apologize for the trouble, but we don't have this option available for our equipment. You can purchased your own compatible gateway and perform this action if you'd like.

@user_5dbp9o

Please create a new topic of your own here on this board detailing your issue. Thanks. The original poster has not returned. 4-month-old dead thread is now being closed.

For future reference, it is better to submit your own post as it creates a ticket to get help, and posting on someone else's older thread can delay getting help.
