Change DNS on Router

How can I change my DNS on the router level?

Based on my experience in corporate American I know with 100% certainty that DNS queries to the default servers are spied upon and shared liberally. I would like to disable IPv6 DNS and change IPv4 to a trusted alternative.

If it's a Comcast supplied gateway device, you can't change the DNS servers.

I have been told by AprilAire (Home HVAC Thermostat Supplier) that Comcast can change the Router DNS to accommodate their products, which have trouble connecting to the router with default DNS address., which is inconsistent with your response above. Please confirm.

@user_8ad032 The default DNS servers can not be changed in the Comcast supplied gateway devices...
