Cant upgrade speed without renting modem?

Hello all, i recently did a chat in the Xfinity app trying to upgrade from my current 1000mbps to something faster. Specifically i am looking to get more upload speed. The agent said the 2000 tier has more but that i would have to rent a modem, instead of using the customer owned one i have now.

Is this true? Anyone/anything i can do to get around this? Thanks.

Yes it is true, the 2 gig speed is tied to their xb8 modem. That is the only way to get that plan.

I have that plan and my upload speeds typically hover at or above 200. I run a speed test once a day, so I have proof and this is on Wi-Fi.
