Can't load certain websites and apps on my laptop and phone while connected to my xFinity router

Just as the subject says. I can not load certain websites on my laptop and I can not load certain apps on my cell phone while connected to my xfinity modem/router.

Just a little background:

1) I have a netgear router connected to the modem. I only use this router to connect to a system via ethernet cable that gives me updates on solar panels I have installed on my roof. I tried connecting that system directly to the back of the Xfinity moden, but for some reason the xFinity modem blocks the system and I was unable to recieve updates, so I solved the problem by using the netgear router instead.

2) This xfinity router/Netgear router combo has been working for a year and just not started giving me and everyone in my house problems. Certain apps and certain websites just wount load! This is rather frustrating.

    a) Apps and websites that wont load: Twitter.com, Reddit.com, Amazon.com, http://portquiz.net:81/, xFi mobile app, twitter app, reddit app

     b) Apps and websites that will load: Youtube.com, Google.com, fourms.xfinity.com

3) At first I noticed that my netgear router was not connected to the internet for some reason, even though it was connected via ethernet cable and has been working just fine from 2018 to 2019. Once I reset the xfinity modem, I was able to regain internet connectivity on the netgear router.

       a) Connecting to directly to the netgear router did not yeild any problems as I was able to load the previous websites that I was not able to while connected directly to the xfinity modem.

4) Traceroute while connected to the xFinity modem to the websites I couldn't connect to timed out all 30 hops.

How do I fix this as the xFinity folks over the phone just keep resetting my modem, which hasn't changed anything.

I know people have been contacting  @ComcastJohnN

Are you using the Xfi Advanced Security ? If so, try disabling it and see;

Would you please post some of those traceroute samples.

You are being blocked right at your gateway device. Did you try disabling the advanced security ? You say that you are not using it, and you may not have deliberately downloaded anything, but AFAIK it is automatically downloaded to their gateway's firmware whether you like it or not.

I ran into this issue when the router stopped issuing IPV4 address to my devices.  Most devices still conencted to the network with an IPV6 address, but not all.  Some wired devices were really picky.  I had to do a hard reset of my router.  After that, for me, things were even faster!  Maybe the security push hung something up.  It may be worth a try.  I also renamed my network to have  clean start.

I myslef have not looked into this new security.  I personally did not set anything and I guess I am running on the default settings?

Good luck.

I checked again and I do not have it on, I have the xFi app and it looked multiple times. I was in contact with comcastJohn about this issue. I have a netgear router that I have connected to the back of the xFinity modem and I had to disable the DHCP feature on the router, supposidly it is doing somthing to my xFinity modem.

I have disable it, and turn on and off my router, unplugged it,  and nothing has changed. I am kinda at the ends of my wits lol. Should I just go buy a $100 modem to replace this?

So I did the hard reset by pressing the button behind and no change in my network access. Still can't load certain websites Amazon.com for example. I can't even sync my one drive either lol.  This is getting quite annoying to be honest.

Sometimes it may take  a few hard resets.  ANd you ahve to hook up one pc to the router to reinit stuff with xfinity.  If you don't get prompted to do that, then its not resetting.

I also renamed my network and used a new password in case the devices were caching things.  On my pcs i reset the network config (dns flush and some other steps).  I did not reboot all wifi devices.  I dod do most.  When I was having issues with 50% of sites and services it was with devices that only ahd an ipv6 local address.  It was annoying.

Did you check you devices to see if they were getting an valid IPV4 address in the range you picked?

When my devices did show and IPV4 they were wrong as they were the "default" 169.xxx.xxx.xxx versus my custom one.

There is a chance you router went bad.  Has happend to me a few times over the years.

Well that is all I have for you.  I wish you luck.

I'm not sure what you mean by init to xfinity, I went to the 10.0.0.1 IP address and did a factory reset, but still nothing changed.

Sorry if In confused things 😞

After a hard reset via the button on the back.  I hook up a laptop to the left LAN port on the XB6.

After the modem finsihed initializing back up, I was auto directed to a page to set things when I brought up a browser.

I just followed those steps.   I do not recall what they were.

Supposedly you can do all this via the app after you do a hard reset, but I have always done it this way.

I had to do the reset 2 times before I landed on the setup page.

Thanks, I was able to reset and get to the websites on my laptop, but for some reason can't connect to them on my phone.  On the apps and through web browsers on my phone. Lol what is going on?

We have been experiencing the same exact issue on all our computers, tvs ect.. with same xb6 - i have done everything here to both the xb6 and our switch. Since more then a dozen systems have your issue. It fixed issue temporarily. On the phone 4 hours with comcast. They will be sending someone to check or replace the modem. I also ordered a new switch too just in case but will let you know.
