Can't access status page on 192.168.100.1 with a Broadcom modem? It's because you have a 192.168.0.0/24 network.

This has been driving me nuts for 3+ years on an SB8200, MB8600, and now an MB8611. I can ping 192.168.100.1, but trying to access the web interface always fails.

The explanation for why it fails is highly technical but the short version is that, when accessing the modem's web interface, the modem sends an ARP request to the router claiming to be from 192.168.0.1. The router thinks "Hey, I shouldn't be seeing ARP requests on the WAN interface from a LAN IP" and ignores it. The modem never sees a reply to its ARP request so the communication with the web interface never happens.

The solution for most people would be to disable Martian filtering if their router provides such an option or to move away from using 192.168.0.0/24 on their LAN.

Motorola has recently created a page acknowledging that using 192.168.0.0/24 is a problem but I'd like to see them / Broadcom fix it instead of pushing it on their users to change their LAN IP range. This is a bug. An incredibly idiotic bug.

I'm having the same issue.

After getting the notifications from Comcast that my modem was not allowing full use of my bandwidth, I just replaced my Arris Surfboard SB6183 with a new Motorola MB8611.

With the Arris, I was able to get to 192.168.100.1 without any issues.  After swapping the modem, I could no longer reach the login page.  It just times out after about 30 seconds.  I then plugged an ethernet cable directly from a Windows laptop to the back of the modem.  That also just times out.

If you haven't, you need to power cycle the modem when you try that, and then again when you re-insert the router into the path.

Please create a new topic of your own here on this board detailing your issue if you wish. Thanks. The original poster has not returned. 3 month old dead thread now being closed.
