Cannot reach any mainland China servers since Oct 24 (traceroute dies after entering China Telecom 202.97.x) - Seattle

Since Oct 24, 2026 around 5:25 PM PT, my Xfinity home connection in Seattle cannot reach any server hosted in mainland China. TCP 443 and ping both time out, while all other sites work normally. The same sites load fine from my phone's cellular data and from other US networks, so the problem appears to be on the Xfinity path.

Examples that fail: drive.quark.cn (203.119.146.35), ark.cn-beijing.volces.com (101.126.13.31), 220.181.38.148, taobao.com, jd.com. Sites served from Hong Kong or other overseas edges still work.

Traceroute: my gateway, then the Comcast backbone; the last Comcast hop is 96.110.36.218, then it enters China Telecom 202.97.x and gets no further response. China Mobile destinations stop at 223.120.x the same way.

This looks very similar to the March 2026 Xfinity to China routing issue that Comcast acknowledged. Could someone please escalate this to network engineering to check the international routing and peering for my line? Please do not change my public IP; I need to keep it.

Thanks.

user_lp09ke Do you see a service interruption or planned maintenance from the Xfinity app by any chance? Are you receiving an error code or message when trying to connect to those servers?

Thanks for getting back to me. The Xfinity app shows [no outage or planned maintenance] for my address. There's no error code. Connections just time out: TCP port 443 and ping to mainland China IPs (for example 220.181.38.148, and drive.quark.cn at 203.119.146.35) get no response, and in the browser the page just hangs until it times out. I retested this morning (Oct 31) and it's still failing. Traceroute always stops right after the last Comcast hop (96.110.36.218) once it reaches China Telecom 202.97.x, and China Mobile routes die at 223.120.x the same way. This started on Oct 24 around 5:25 PM PT. Could this please be escalated to network engineering to check Comcast's routing/peering toward China Telecom and China Mobile? Thanks!

@XfinityShawn

Wonder how this could possibly be related to a "service interruption or planned maintenance" ???
