Cannot Access my XB7 Gateway

I have an XB7 gateway in bridge mode and cannot reach it to manage the settings.  When I enter 10.0.0.1 on my Windows 11 laptop, I get a page saying I have to use the Xfinity app.  Apparently there's a setting that enables PC access to the admin tools on the gateway. Support notes say to go to the WiFi tab on the app on my Android phone and then View WiFi Equipment.  The view command does not show up on the phone app.  I see my X1 TV boxes.  The only gateway option is for setting it up, which I did years ago.  I tried l signing out of the app, forcing a close, and clearing the cache.  Still no way to view WiFi equipment.

This also seems to be discriminatory against people who can't use the app. Support's stance is just reach out to a friend who can let you use their phone to use the app. How is this a solution?

@TheEight-BitLink I have the app on my phone.  It just doesn't show the View WiFi Equipment link.

You might need to reset your device to get it out of bridge mode because Xfinity's poorly written app can't handle a device in bridge mode.

@TheEight-BitLink  I hope that's not the case.  No mention of anything like that in the support notes and I'm certainly not unusual in having the gateway in bridge mode.

Same here. I was using the admin access just fine, but now they've blanket disabled it, and support claims they can't re-enable it, with the only option being the app.

@BIslander

There are no end-user adjustable or WiFi functions in bridge mode. It's just a straight cable modem.

@EG ok.  I used to be able to access admin tools when in bridge mode.   Now I can't.  Are you saying I could reach the admin module using 10.0.0.1 if I was not in bridge mode?

Yes, but you may have to enable Admin Tool access first;

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access

Open the Xfinity App. (You'll need a working connection for this step).

Go to the WiFi tab.

Select View WiFi equipment and open Advanced Settings.

Select Admin Tool online access.

Slide the toggle button to Allow Admin Tool access (ON).

Select Save.

@EG Please read the earlier posts!  My app doesn't show the View WiFi Equipment link.  That's the issue.   I've reinstalled the app.  No change.

Sorry, but I'm not able to help with any of their possible firmware glitches. Good luck !

Spent time in a tech support chat.  No resolution.  But, the r/Comcast_Xfinity support group on reddit says it is not possible to reach the admin area when in bridge mode.  You have you disable bridge in order to see the admin pages.

Thank you @EG for your guidance on accessing Admin Tools by first enabling this on the Xfinity app. @BIslander   When Admin Tool access is toggled on, you can access it by going to http://10.0.0.1 in a web browser. Also, you must be on your home network. What you mentioned earlier about Bridge Mode is correct. When Bridge Mode is enabled, you can access the Xfinity app to manage your account, but you won’t be able to manage and personalize your network.

@XfinityEva Thanks.  The Comcast person at reddit said the app is not at fault - that View WiFi Equipment will not show up on the app when the gateway is in bridge mode.

Resolution:  I ended up swapping my XB7 for an XB8.  In that process, I saw that View WiFi Equipment and access to 10.0.0.1 is available when the gateway is routing and it disappears when in bridge mode.   It would be great if more support people knew about that and if the support notes mentioned that admin tools are not available when in bridge mode.

Or, since they control the hardware, firmware, and app, actually fix this issue.

Would you mind trying one more thing and sharing the findings with the community, please ? Would you please confirm if the admin tool access address changes from 10.0.0.1 to 192.168.100.1 when in bridge mode, and that you can only passively access some RF signal status values, as a straight cable modem does ?

@EG  Interesting.  192.168.100.1 doesn't connect to anything.  But, 10.0.0.1 gets to the admin login page.  I can login and see all the usual stuff, except for WiFi material since it's in bridge mode.  I couldn't do this on my other gateway.  I assume that's because I authorized admin tools before going into bridge mode on the new gateway.  Probably hadn't done that on the old one.
