Can you have 2 modems on 1 cable line if separate households?
My wife and I are renting an apartment above someone’s garage. The family we are renting from has xfinity and put a wifi extender in our apartment. They are a larger family and we’re guessing they stream/use wifi a LOT. We’ve noticed the wifi has been really unreliable, so we decided to get our own xfinity. We’re trying to connect the gateway/modem and nothing seems to be working. Is this because of the double modems? Is there anything we can do to resolve this?

The outlet would have to be connected to a live Comcast feed, and the modem would need to be activated for service. But you may not be able to have your own separate service in your name unless that apartment has a separate street address than the owner's primary street address. And the coax feed may have to be connected to a different / separate tap at the pole / pedestal. Their typical policy is one cable modem per address.
There also may be other options for strengthening their WiFi signal or using MoCA adapters on both ends of that existing coax cable line. MoCA is basically ethernet over coax. Google it for more info.
