Cable modem upgrade

we got an email saying we needed to upgrade our cable modem. While our internet has been slow, all diagnostics show no problem. We currently have NETGEAR C7100V and they are recommending Netgear CM2050V.

Advice?? I can't get anyone at XFINITY to answer a phone... I don't want the assistant

@loisaf51 It would depend on the service plan you're currently subscribed to. From what I am finding in my research, the C7100V modem only supports speeds up to 400 Mbps. Only two plans are supported within that specification, our Connect and Connect More plans, currently at 150 Mbps and 300 Mbps, respectively. If you're on a plan that is faster than 400 Mbps, you're paying for something your equipment is not allowing you to achieve. It is our responsibility to make you aware of that equipment issue and not meant to upsell you or force you to change.

I am furious now because Xfinity emailed me on Dec 18 with the following subject line: Replace your internet equipment to get faster speeds. The compatible decvice shown was the

Netgear CM2050V

Cable Modem

I currently had the NETGEAR CM7100V

I assumed i could disconnect what i had and replace with the new one that i bought. NOT! After 2.5 hours trying to reach Xfinity and then talking to Netgear I learned that i also needed a router- why didn’t Xfinity say that ??? I wound up having to purchase support from Netgrear.. All in all this was infuriating and time consuming. I’d like some compensation for this !!!

loisaf51 I do apologize the process of changing to a new modem was not the best experience for you. You always have an option to rent a Xfinity Gateway from us that will cover the modem, and router aspect.
