c6220 firmware ws corrupted by recent update

On Wednesday July 1st my NETGEAR c6220 router received an automatic firmware update that was corrupted and disabled the wifi on my modem.  This caused a few changes in the behavior of my modem that were not there on Tuesday June 30th:

(a) If I open the router configuration software (192.168.0.1) and open the configure wifi module, it says "page not found."
(b) If I open any other module, the page will not load and the modem resets. When it resets, all the lights come on for a few seconds--which is normal--except that the power light is red where all the rest are green. This is a code for a corrupt firmware.

I've reached out to chat and to phone support. I never got through to phone support but was hung up on 7 or 8 times. Chat support promised me a callback from advanced support which never came.

Something to try. No guarantees.

Try hard resetting the device to factory defaults by pressing and holding in the recessed reset button on the rear for 30 seconds.

YMMV. Good luck

Tried that first, no change to the firmware at all.

Does Comcast brick devices in order to get people to purchase their devices?

I could use the TFTP method to update my firmware, but Netgear doesn't provide the firmware to users and instead only provides them to Comcast, they say. If I could get that firmware I could probably restore the router.

Sorry that didn't work for you. Your device may be bricked...... 🙁

Hm. Then maybe I can hope for them to fix it?

No. And it doesn't matter what you do. You are connected to their system. Their firmware will always be pushed and prevail. The best thing that you can do is to get separate components, not a combo gateway device.
