Buying my own modem

I have Voice bundled with my service but never use the phone.  I'd like to buy my own modem and wondering do I have to get one with voice or can I get one without and still have it activated?

I'm getting conflicting answers from Comcast when I call.

You can buy and use your own voice/data modem. This site should help you. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/list-of-approved-cable-modems

@Monkeyboyzz Yes, I know this.  My question is do I HAVE TO get a voice AND data modem, which are a bit more expensive.  I have Triple Play with Voice but I never use the phones, ever!

I want to make sure that I can buy a data modem only and still be able to activate.  I'm getting different answers from Comcast which is frustrating the heck out of me.

As far as I've done before you only need a voice modem if you are using the voice.

@Monkeyboyzz Great.  Thank you!  I figured I could, but knowing Comcast, I didn't want to assume anything.  I want to avoid any issues before instead of after.

@mistergsf The best way to determine if a modem is compatible is to search for it on our modem compatibility list. https://comca.st/3JlUb9N

The modem will need to be optimized for your current internet speed tier.

I no longer work for Comcast.

@XfinityZacharyA Yes. I already know this.  You are veering away from my very specific question.  Can I buy a data only modem without telephone and activate it successfully?  I have Triple Play with Voice and don't use it, never have.  I was getting different answers from Comcast support.  You are an "Official Employee".  What is the answer?

The modem compatibility list for my service shows devices that are modem only, modem with telephone, modem and wifi router, modem and wifi router with telephone.  I would like to buy a modem only device and not be told after the fact that I can't activate because I HAVE TO HAVE modem AND telephone device.

One Comcast agent says, "Yes, modem only is OK." another says, "No, you have to buy data modem and telephone cause it's part of your service. It doesn't matter if you never use it."

This is the kind of frustration we customers have to deal with.

OMG.  This is just as frustrating as being on the phone with Comcast.  Do Comcast employees know how the Device Info website works?  It already shows the devices that work with my internet speed!

I have Internet, TV and phone through xfinity. I bought my own modem, without voice capability, and everything works just fine.  You should, however, check your voicemail through the app or online, as there will be messages there (almost 100% of it will be spam calls).

@NoNoBadPuppy Dios mío!  I just knew someone was going to add to this conversation and demonstrate just how poor direct support from Xfinity is.  Thanks for sharing this!
