Automatic Wifi channel selection is terrible.

My wifi is being "managed automatically to help optimize your home Wi-Fi network and improve Wi-Fi coverage". The problem is that both wifi channels are set to the most congested channels in the neighborhood. There are several open frequencies not being used. We are picking up lots of interference. How can I take control back?
