ARRIS SVG2482AC vs ARRIS T25 vs Netgear CM1150V - looking to purchase - which one has least issues with Xfinity

Looking to replace current ARRIS svg2482c ( think it is going out on me ) .    I have  triple play plus my own router . Current speed is 400 mbs.

These are my choices:

ARRIS SVG2482AC

ARRIS T25

Netgear CM1150V

Which has given you all the least amount of issues?

Which to buy?

If you think there is another one that will work with phone, feel free to add.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks...

In my Opinion only-They all have there ups and downs! But the biggest controversies that I`ve seen on here; Owning VS Renting a modem/router.

Owners of their own modem/routers seem to go round and round in a battle of problems with Comcast. And yes Comcast has blamed a lot on what the owner has purchased, even though it`s in their approved list. Problems also come from inexperience of how to activate and set up their system. The cost to effect repairs usually falls on the Owner of the equipment.  Renters of modem/routers seem to go round and round in a battle of problems with Comcast as well, these problems also come from inexperience of how to activate and set up their system. But in the end, 100% of the problem falls to Comcast to fix it.

I`m a Renter, problems I have had in the past with their modems always end up easily fixed, or head to the comcast store for a new/newer model. Hardest thing about that is activating the new/newer modem, as in phone time. But it beats waiting for solutions.

FWIW, you don't need DOCSIS 3.1 capable devices like the ARRIS T25 or the Netgear CM1150V for 400 Mbps speed unless you are planning on upgrading to their gigabit speed tier. That said, I'll add my $.02.

Just look around the forums and you'll see that there are boatloads of issues with the CC supplied gateways !! There is always an inherent disadvantage with these.

Combo gateway devices (whether supplied by them or customer owned) are always a compromise in both quality and performance compared to separate units. Also, only the ISP can update the firmware so you are always a prisoner of that fact / them. And the firmware is typically crippled by the ISP's customizing of it and they typically eliminate valuable features.

One of the biggest issues with them is that it is far more difficult to diagnose connectivity issues when it comes to troubleshooting. You can't narrow things down by using the process of elimination by removing just the router from the path. And if either segment fails / malfunctions, you have a total failure. I think that CC made a big mistake when they changed their policy and decided to start supplying them instead of dedicated devices. The suits seem to think that this will save them money for support costs but I think that they are getting far more support calls/complaints than ever... We certainly are seeing far more complaints in forums now !

Get separate / dedicated units and keep the control of your home network in your hands instead of theirs, you'll be much happier !

@Gambit66 if you go to exchange it at a Xfinity store, have them activate it there, they just scan the barcode and your set, I just did that, came home hooked it up, it booted up and I was online, plus doing it that way also gave me the options in the admin panel, they weren’t grayed out

Good to know. They have never offered to activate it there, and always informed me of calling the number to activate it.

While I was waiting to get my gateway, I witnessed the employees tell folks how to use the Xfi app to activate there gateway, my first Xb7 I activated with Xfi app, guess what, all my admin panel options were grayed out..

I believe it! Set mine straight to bridge mode when getting a new one activated and use my own router.

EG thanks for you note.  I  got my own modem 3.5 years ago after dealing with their modems failing frequently.  The Arris svg2482ac was the only modem with phone option for use with Xfinity at that time.  Now there are several modems ( on Xfinity approved list) out there with phone that have router combined and without router combined. I am leaning towards the option without the router since i have my own router but have to have one with phone hookup since i have phone through Xfinity. This way i dont have to deal with bridge mode and any chance the provisioning updates screwing up the modem's bridge mode ( has happened in past with these guys ).

@EG.  Sooner or later, I'm on a replacement path too.  I know you aren't a fan of puma hardware.  I'm looking at the physical phy spec/what compliance says, manufacturer spec, signal the levels posted here for plant.  Field Tec's tell you something else.

You got the tribal knowledge.  Who's hardware/phy chipsets/PLLs work more reliably, or are they all just cost reduced and swapping in cloned hardware quarter by quarter?  Speed is not a concern at all.
