Arris surfboard SB8200 how to activate the second ethernet port

I am having trouble activating the second ethernet port on my modem. The reason I bought this modem was so that I could connect the second port to my personal device. I tried contacting Xfinity and they seem to not know how to add a second IP address. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

They are phasing this feature out so it may no longer be available but I'm going to escalate this to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. We've seen cases here where they have been able to get this accomplished for customers even when it is not listed in their rate cards, YMMV. You should get a reply here in your topic. Good luck !

@user_wda6xc Thanks for creating a post and for @EG on bringing it to our attention The second IP address is not available and/or supported in all markets any longer, but we can look into your account and see if it is available. Would you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

To send a Direct Message:

Ensure you are logged in

  • Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging
  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.
    • As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.
    • An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.
  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  • Press Enter to send it.

On the Arris site, for the SB8200 they say the 2nd port is just for link aggregation -- If you wanted to, or could combine both ports to a router/firewall that supports LAG to increase throughput for a service tier greater than 1Gbps, you could do that.  Real world physical throughput on 1Gbps hardware is going to be around 940-960Mbps depending on protocol overhead and the software stack on both devices connected.

If you had a 2nd external IP address, you could use it for that, although that isn't offered in most markets these days with Xfinity, and additional IP addresses are usually only offered on business accounts, and you would also have to use their equipment in most markets now too if you had an Xfinity business account.

It does not appear it can function as a standard Ethernet port for connecting an additional device on that one.

That article states this;

"Utilize Both Ethernet Ports. The 2nd Ethernet port can be used for Link Aggregation setup or adding additional IP address for Internet service."

"Add IP Address for Internet Service - The 2nd IP address must be subscribed from the cable provider; not all cable providers offer additional IP address for residential service."

And I know for a fact that I've escalated to the employees here before for that model and they've gotten it done for the customer, provided that it was still available in their particular market areas.
