Arris SB8200 Upload Speed
I recently activated an Arris SB8200 modem, replacing an Xfinity XB6-A gateway (in bridge mode). I used speedtest.xfinity.com to check the download and upload speeds before and after the change. The tests were run on a desktop with a wired connection to a Netgear WiFi router. The download speeds remained acceptable, but the upload speeds were dramatically reduced, from 90 Mbps to 6 Mbps. How can I confirm that the modem has received the latest firmware update and has been correctly provisioned? My Xfinity "Connect More" plan supports download speeds up to 400 Mbps and upload speeds up to 150 Mbps.

The Arris SB8200 will not support enhanced upload (mid-split) speed. The best you'll do is 40 Mbps. In my case, I switched over to the Netgear CM3000 which is qualified for mid-split.

I had an SB8200 for years, but retired it long ago. It is dated, and even in it's prime 40 up was rare. Suggest you invest in something more modern...the XB8200 was released 9 years ago.

You should be getting more than 6Mbps upstream, but as stated, the SB8200 will be limited to about 40. Can you try measuring with a device directly connected to the modem with an Ethernet cable? You'll probably need to reboot the modem each time you change the connection.
Although Comcast calls some devices "Compatible" and some "Recommended", for all but a few devices those designations only mean "compatible/recommended for use with their Internet service", and not necessarily approved for the higher upload speeds introduced in 2023.
The few compatible retail devices are listed under the "Next Gen Speed Tier" heading at the top of the "All Compatible Devices" PDF linked near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices (at the moment that link points to https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2025.03.25 Full List of Compatible Devices.pdf, but this changes from time to time).
For faster upload you need one of Comcast's newer rental gateways (XB6, XB7, XB8) or one of these retail devices:
Comcast/Xfinity could make all of this much simpler and clearer, but they have chosen not to do so.

I checked the upload speed on a computer connected directly to the modem, and it is still 5 to 6 Mbps. I initiated a Direct Message conversation with Xfinity Support, but have not yet received a response.

I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) who are available to these boards. Good luck !

@user_6mb3a4gw Thanks for making us aware you're not getting faster upload speeds even after completing a speed test while hardwired. I would be more than happy to confirm your current modem has the latest firmware. Let's continue our conversation via DM.
