arris s34

I just upgraded my modem to the arris s34. My upload speed has increased a lot but my download speed is the same as before. What could be the problem?

user_ji0xrw thank you for using the Xfinity Community Forums page to reach out today. I understand that you are trying to get the download speeds that you have paid for. Let's take a closer look at where things stand with your connection. Firstly, can you confirm for me the speeds you are receiving compared to what you anticipate receiving?

I was getting 900 downloads and 40 upload on my old arris sb8200. Now I’m getting the same download speed but 345 upload speed. I should be getting close to 2000 download speed. Other people are getting that with the same internet service.

@user_ji0xrw

Does the rest of your equipment (router, network adapter) support speeds greater than gigabit speeds? What do you get with a computer directly connected to the S34 using a Cat6 or higher Ethernet cable?

I believe so. I’m using cat 8 cable and my mesh system is Linksys ax 4200. It says it supports up to 4.2. When I check the speed I check it from the street to the modem. I read that I need to call Xfinity to activate my new modem.

... my mesh system is Linksys ax 4200 ...

The Technical Specifications for the device listed on https://support.linksys.com/kb/article/426-en/ indicate that all of its ports are only 1 Gbps, which means that they will only pass data at about 940 Mbps. Also, the claimed 4200 Mbps speed is simply the sum of the speeds of the three Wifi frequencies, which some may consider to be a misleading way to state the device speed.

@BruceW  I believe the port I'm using says it is is 2.5gb or 3gb LAN. I could be wrong though.
