Arris G36 router/modem doesn't connect to my printer.

I am trying to connect my Brother HL-L2350DW printer to my new Arris G36 modem/router and It's not able to recognize the printer. The error message states:

The Authentication/Encryption methods used by the selected wireless access point/router are not supported by your machine.

Change the authentication and encryption method of the wireless access point/router. Your machine supports the following authentication methods:

  • WPA-Personal

    TKIP or AES

  • WPA2-Personal

    TKIP or AES

  • Open

    WEP or None (without encryption)

  • Shared key

    WEP

Any help on how to fix this?

Brother printer is an 802.11 b/g/n (unless there is a model subset you got):  https://www.brother-usa.com/products/hll2350dw

G36 is WiFi 6:  https://www.surfboard.com/products/wi-fi-cable-modems/g36/

They're not speaking the same language.  You can look at the manual and see if you can change radio modes on the G36 so it can speak b/g/n.  Your other devices are going to have to be able to do that too.  Or use an Ethernet cable to the printer.  Or if there's a machine you leave on all the time, you can try printer sharing with other things on your network.

Update:  Gah.  No Ethernet port on that one either....bummer.  USB though.....
