ARRIS G36 compatibility with Gigabit Extra (1200 Mbps), Brother printer, and connection reliability
Subject: ARRIS G36 compatibility with Gigabit Extra (1200 Mbps), Brother printer, and connection reliability
I currently have Xfinity Gigabit Extra internet service (1200 Mbps) and use my own NETGEAR C7000v2 combined cable modem/router.
Because my NETGEAR is no longer on Xfinity's approved-device list, I am considering replacing it with an ARRIS SURFboard G36 DOCSIS 3.1 combined modem/router.
However, when I sign in to Xfinity's compatible-device website and select "For Your Plan," the G36 does not appear. Only five standalone cable modems are listed, none with built-in Wi-Fi.
I have several questions:
-
Compatibility: Is the ARRIS G36 approved for activation on my existing Gigabit Extra 1200 Mbps plan? Will it support my full download speed, and are there any limitations on upload speed, including enhanced upload speeds?
-
Compatible-device list: Why does the personalized "For Your Plan" list show only standalone modems and no customer-owned combined modem/router devices? Does the G36's absence mean it is incompatible with my plan?
-
Brother printer/scanner: I previously tried an Xfinity XB8 gateway but reverted to my NETGEAR because my Brother MFC-L8900CDW wireless printer/scanner would not work properly. It currently connects successfully over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and I use both printing and scanning from my Windows 11 desktop, which connects to the router by Ethernet.
Can an Xfinity employee review my previous XB8 support tickets or account notes to determine what troubleshooting was performed and whether the printer successfully connected to the XB8's Wi-Fi?
-
Wireless compatibility: Does the G36 allow a separate 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network using WPA2-Personal (AES) security, to accommodate older wireless devices such as my Brother printer?
-
Connection reliability: Are there any known G36 compatibility or performance limitations on my service tier, particularly involving intermittent disconnections or reduced speeds?
-
Rollback: If I activate the G36 and encounter problems, can Xfinity reactivate my existing NETGEAR C7000v2 so I can restore my current working configuration?
I would strongly prefer to continue using a single combined modem/router, rather than purchasing and configuring two separate devices.
I would appreciate clarification before purchasing the G36.
