Arris device connected to my Gateway

Hello,

I've noticed a number of customers complaining that an Arris device connected to their network and I experienced the same problem recently with my Gateway. What I haven't seen here is a definitive way to resolve this or definite problem in the security that allows this to happen. Why is it specifically Arris devices that are able to get in?

Hello, user_b1l4a2! Thanks for reaching out to us on the forums! I apologize to hear that you are seeing an unknown Arris device showing up on your network and understand your security concern. Arris devices are usually modems and gateways. From what you have described it sounds like a MoCA filter is missing from your line. A MoCA PoE filter stops unwanted signals and cross-interference. When this is missing, neighboring modems/gateways appear on your network. Since it has been some time, can you let us know if you are still seeing this device show on your network?

@user_b1l4a2 @XfinityMichaelC And FWIW, we've also seen here many times that it turns out to be the device's own internal firewall. YMMV.

@EG can you clarify what you mean by the device's own firewall? Do you mean my gateway might have an internal firewall issue? If so, what type of issue and how can it be resolved?

If it turns out to be that, then it's not an issue. It's a false alarm.
