Another Netgear C7800 saga.

I had been on the Gigabit Plan, fat, dumb and happy. Then, last month, I got notified that  my speed has been increased "from 1 Gbps to up to 1.2 Gbps." Cool. So I waited. Then it happened (Wait for it...). My speed degraded by more than 10%. Where I was at 980+Mbps I am now at around 800Mbps. Long story short, they've thrown countless "technicians" at it, some of whom blatantly lied to me about the cause of the problem, all of them blindly repeating what the other had done multiple times because they don't review the service record. There've been two "technicians" here at the house in as many days with a third coming out tomorrow. I'd like to think "the Office of Tom Karinshak" is watching this topic since I got an apologetic email from there.

Here's the question: Is there anyone with a C7800 successfully getting "up to 1200Mbps?" If so. what's the secret? Don't get me wrong. 800Mbps isn't bad. But it ain't what I'm paying for and it's not what it was.

Hello @user_3753ba, thank you for joining us here at the forums. The Netgear C7800 is currently only capable of achieving wired download speeds up to 1Gbps on an Xfinity network--not 1.2Gbps. The device is more than likely unable to read the bootfile for the new speeds, therefore you're experiencing a speed degradation. Currently, there are 5 approved third-party devices rated for the 1.2Gbps speeds on an Xfinity network. There are:

  • ARRIS S33
  • Motorola MB8611
  • Netgear CM2050V
  • Netgear CM2000
  • Netgear CAX80

The device can either be updated to support the new tier, or we can explore other speed options. Customers who choose to use a third-party device are responsible for ensuring the retail device is secure and certified, that it supports your Xfinity Internet service speed, and for upgrading your equipment when we increase speeds. Visit https://comca.st/34in1pi for compatibility. We recommend that consumers stay aware of new developments in technology to better understand when replacing the retail device may be necessary.

And yet, and still, I *was* getting 980+- before the "increase."

However my question is still unanswered:  Is there anyone with a C7800 successfully getting "up to 1200Mbps?"

Have to agree. That device has only gigabit LAN ports that with the expected Ethernet overhead will yield around 940 Mbps speed. Now, with their system, devices that are not compatible with *their* rated speeds will default to user a slower / default configuration / bootfile. Even lower than the gig speed tier. It's just the way that it is with their system.......
