advanced security

I turned on Advanced Security through the app, and it keeps blocking the application I use to type texts on my PC and send them through my phone. I looked up the knowledge articles pertaining to allowing long-term access and it only works for a web site. The article also says that blocked items should be listed in the recent threats section of the Advanced Security page, but there is never anything listed in that section.

Also, like many others have noted, I turned Advanced Security on, and the Xfinity app takes me back to the page and asks me to turn it on, again. I don't think the Xfinity app is ready for "prime time." Acts like a beta to me.

Greetings, @Liss60! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum. I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with Advanced Security, but you have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

Can you please tell me a little more about the texting application that is being blocked? If you turn off or disable Advanced Security, does the application work as expected? You mentioned there were no blocked items in the security risk dashboard when this occurs. Are you seeing any generic notifications in the dashboard, or is it completely blank?

Hi James -

The app is called Pushbullet Pro and I use the Windows app on my main PC, which allows me to type texts on a full-size keyboard instead of on my phone. Pushbullet Pro works fine when I turn off Advanced Security.

Below is what the Xfinity Advanced Security screen has on it. I don't think I ever see a "Dashboard," unless that is what you are calling my Home screen when I log into the Xfinity app on my phone?

Your devices are protected

No recent threats on home WiFi

Advanced Security is helping protect devices on your home WiFi from security threats.

Turn off Advanced Security  >

The only active thing on the screen is the "Turn off Advanced Security" item.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thank you for clarifying, @Liss60. It is definitely unusual that the program stops working when Advanced Security is enabled. When you go into your Advanced Security settings, there should be a list of any potential threats that were blocked by the program, but Pushbullet Pro, or the device running it, do not register as a threat of any kind. Do you have a dedicated port forward set up for this app, or does it just automatically create a connection? Have you already tried adding it as an exception to your own Windows Firewall & network protection? I realize this is not directly being blocked by your firewall, but it may still be triggering something that Advanced Security doesn't recognize.

I don't have any settings for Advanced Security. My only option is to turn it on when it is off, and off when it is on.

I use ESET for my PC security. It doesn't change anything with Advanced Security if I pause the firewall.

Not sure why I am not getting the block/message today. I have been using Pushbullet Pro this morning.
