Admin Tool access

I received a message from Xfinity that read:

Over the next few weeks, the online Admin Tool accessed via http://10.0.0.1 on your home network will be turned off to help keep your WiFi as secure as possible.
You can now easily manage your WiFi settings and equipment with the Xfinity app.

I need to use the online admin portal every day to switch between firewall settings. I tried going to the app like suggested but the admin feature isn't there. I have to have this feature every single day and have a real situation here. What do I do?

I have the same problem.  I received the same message from Xfinity and I too want to keep access to the admin tool.  However, the Xfinitiy app does NOT have the "Admin Tool online access" selection under Advanced Settings which, according to Xfinity's website, is supposed to be there.  This is from their webseite:

Allow Admin Tool access (toggle ON)

If you need to access the Admin Tool, use the following instructions to enable access.

  1. Visit the WiFi tab in the Xfinity app.
  2. Select View WiFi equipment and open Advanced settings.
  3. Select Admin Tool online access.    <<<<<<<<<< This does NOT exist in the Xfinity app
  4. Slide the toggle button to Allow Admin Tool access.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Visit http://10.0.0.1 while connected to your WiFi at home.
    • Username: admin
    • Password: Check the sticker on the bottom of your Xfinity WiFi Gateway.

So, how do we keep access to the admin tool?

Greetings, @user_0b7381! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum about this new admin tool access feature. You have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

I think the Admin Tool online access toggle was just added to the Xfinity app recently (Ver 5.62.0). When this was first announced, I did not have it on my app either, but there was an update a few days ago that added it. The Advanced Settings tab should have: DMZ, DNS Server, LAN & WAN, Port Forwarding, Xfinity WiFi Hotspot, and Admin tool online access. If you are not seeing all of these options, you may need to update your app version, or log out and log back in to update your access. If this is still missing today, please let up know, and we can look into this for you.

Hello @XfinityJamesC , @XfinityThomasA  - I am having the same problem as the original poster and am running app version 5.65.0.  Under the WiFi tab, I only see "Troubleshoot", "Wifi Hotspots", and "Ask Xfinity Assistant".  Thus, I am unable to follow the instructions to re-enable admin tool access since I don't have those options in the app.

I saw in another thread a recommendation to factory reset the Xfi modem.  This is an undesirable option for me as it will cause a considerable amount of additional work to re-instate the settings I have in place for my network.  How can I get access to the admin tool without doing the factory reset?

Hello user_v6q1nt! Thank you for reaching out to us and sharing the trouble you are having with enabling the admin tool access. I'm sorry that the option is not listed as expected in the Xfinity app. I checked my own account, and I am showing the option within the app. That's helping me understand that it's not an app issue and more likely an issue with the account, equipment or user access. To rule it out have you uninstalled and reinstalled the app?

Do you use an additional router with the gateway? Are you signing in as the primary user or account manager? I want to try everything else that we can to try to keep from a factory reset.

Perhaps you meant "articles" and "regarding"? And perhaps you missed the line where the poster said:

  • "Select Admin Tool online access.    <<<<<<<<<< This does NOT exist in the Xfinity app"?
