Admin page
Why can’t I connect to my router/modems admin page when there is an outage. I cant even see all the devices connected to my lan on the Xfinity app unless I go to security. This is very frustrating. I tried calling customer service to get a rep but the bot told me that that the outage has to be solved before it would connect me to anyone. Does anyone know how to remedy this or an isp of similar service that I could switch too. I’m am using the modem/router Xfinity provided.

You are limited by the firmware on the xfinity rental gear as far as having any ability to control the gateway locally. If they have now removed the "connected devices" page from the firmware if you log in locally with http://10.0.0.1 then it is what it is. (default username/password is admin/password).
I also wouldn't hold out any hope for the phone app to be able to communicate with the gateway during an actual cable outage either. The cable is out.
The xfinity gateway is a rental, and you don't actually own it. If you cancel service and don't return it, they'll bill you for it. I don't know if would work on another cable DOCSIS system or not. It would depend on the ISP, and it would NOT work with DSL or fiber.
If you want a gateway that does have other features, you can buy a 3rd party one and save $14-16/month in rental fees depending on your market. Find a supported one that works with your current speed tier here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/list-of-approved-cable-modems .
You can also just get an approved Modem (not a gateway), and buy your own Ethernet router with features you want. The Ethernet router does not have to be approved in that case, just the Modem that will only handle the coax connection.
Whatever you get, make sure it comes with a Manual and the features you want.
