additional ip address
i would like to get a second ip address for my service. how do i do that? is it still possible that if this gets escalated to the right people that can happen?
i want one ip for my router, and one i can connect my laptop to. i tutor people over the web, so i want to be able to have that connection separate from all the other house traffic.
thanks!

You used to be able to get an additional IP on a residential account, but you can't in most areas now. You can on a business account. You could log in here and see what you can get at your location: https://www.xfinity.com/support/rate-card Sometimes you can get a business account even if it's not on the rate card (pdf). I don't know how maintained it is. Nothing else is.
I use a firewall with multiple internal physical interfaces and handle traffic with rules. Some routers can do it with VLANS (virtual LANS, two or more internal subnets, you pick which devices are in which group), and route traffic that way. Look at the manual before you buy. Search engine is your friend here.

They are phasing it out but I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. We've seen cases here where they have been able to get this accomplished for customers even when it is not listed in their rate cards, YMMV. You should get a reply here in your topic. Good luck !

Thank you for reaching out on the forums, @ozzloy! Can you check the following link to ensure your area is eligible for a second IP address? https://comca.st/3Gn1GyQ
Let me know the result and we'll move forward from there!

FWIW. A suggestion to look at and a link to the customer's rate card were already given by others. The reason I escalated this topic to the team is to see if you can work your internal escalation magic as many other corporate employees have done for customers here in the past..

wow, thanks for replying so quickly and addressing what i was asking about!
it is not listed in my area. is that the end of the road?
i saw other threads where the issue was escalated to corporate, but nothing in the last year where that was confirmed to have resulted in a second ip. so i'm guessing the "phasing out" has turned into "phased out". that seems the most likely. i hope i'm wrong!
thanks again for the quick, on-topic responses here!
