5GHz Wi-Fi connected but no internet, 2.4GHz works fine (router reset didn't help)

My devices connect to my 5GHz Wi-Fi network, but there's no internet access on that band. I have separate SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and I'm hitting this problem on the 5GHz one.

What I've tried so far:

  • Reset the router to factory settings
  • Set up the two bands as separate networks
  • Reconnected my devices to each network

Devices show as connected to the 5GHz network, but pages won't load and apps can't reach the internet. 2.4GHz works.

Details:

  • Equipment: Asus ZenWiFi AX6600 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System (2). one is wired to modem. Netgear Nighthawk cable modem
  • Devices affected: laptop, phone, streaming device connected to television
  • Does a wired connection work? not for 5g
  • Are the modem lights normal? Yes, normal

Has anyone run into this, or is there a setting I should check (DHCP, channel, band steering)? Any help is appreciated.

user_tjhry0,

Thanks for laying out everything you’ve already tried and for reaching out. I can definitely understand how strange it is to have your devices connect normally on 2.4 GHz while the 5 GHz network shows connected but has no internet, especially after a factory reset. Since this is happening across multiple devices, I’d like to help narrow down whether the issue is coming from the Xfinity connection/modem or the ASUS ZenWiFi system. When you connect a computer directly to the Netgear modem with an Ethernet cable, are you able to access the internet normally?
