5 G connection

I recently got a new gateway router.  I was having trouble with my computer randomly disconnecting.  I split the signals and now I have a stable 2.4 connection but none of my will connect to the the 5 G connection.  I have tried to change the WPA settings, but that hasn't worked either.  I haven't had this problem previously.  Any help?
