2.4ghz barely any speed I’m about fed up.

My 2.4 has always been slower and I understand that. We have used the 5 for everything except my son’s laptop ( only connects to a 2.4) this alone on the 2.4 it would still get 30-50plus mbs.

Well about 4 months ago he started having issues with dropped connections or poor connection. I started doing research speed tests etc. find out it’s only getting an average of 4-5 mbs. Occasionally it jumps to 12-14, but this is short lived as in maybe a min. If I put the lap top right next to the XB3 router/modem I can get it to stablize around 8 mbs. Mind you my iPhone, Ipad and anything else right next to it on the 5ghz gets over 400 mbs.
( I spent 3 days unplugging modem resetting etc)

Very frustrating, I call xfinity of course the automated system says it wants to refresh the modem. It does that, then I call back trying to get a person on the line to explain, yet every time I call it keeps trying to refresh me again lol. Eventually I went to online chat after an hour of automated system refreshing me over and over the tech messed with everything multiple times yet nothing helped. Next step was to send a service tech.

The next day a gentleman came out, replaced the line from pole to house as well as installed a new modem. Even then with his own equipment he could only get the 2.4 to around 10 mbs. I asked if he could see if there was interference or something else cause the 5ghz has been fine and I don’t think the pole or modem was the issue. He didn’t know how to check that. After wasting the phone time and half day of work I pretty much gave up and told my son he has to do his school work next to the router in and not at his desk in the family room. Wellllllllllllllll

Yesterday I started thinking about it again. I called did the reset thing 2 times got frustrated hit zero a 100 time then got a text asking if I wanted to speak to someone got a return phone call right away. They looked into it and I was told that they want to upgrade me to the xb6 modem/router. So today I picked that up from the local Xfi store while there I thought maybe I should invest in the Xfi pods for $120. Maybe boosting the coverage would help??

Get the xb6 setup thinking this is gonna be my 2.4 savior......nope first off it combines my 2.4 and 5 to one network still around 8 mbs on 2.4 laptop, the iPhone kicked but guessing cause it used the 5ghz of the combined was at 500. I then install the pods. Well they stink I realize they must usually rebroadcast the stronger signal (the 2.4) where as the 5 is weaker but faster (2 bars of 5 signal strength would get me around 40mbs pre xb6/pods upgrade in certain rooms) now those areas have full bars but because the 2.4 is stronger a stronger signal It has speed at all.

So pretty much the pods are useless.

I then downloaded a tool that shows channel congestion. Thinking my neighbors maybe messing my 2.4 up. Nope nothing strong on channels causing this issue.
I then spent 2 hours rerunning wires and moving my modem and router to a more central location hoping maybe the interference was related to something near the router. I also shut everything down that possible could effect 2.4 signals, still no difference. I’m at my wits end. How can I have 500 mbs on 5ghz and barely anything on 2.4? Any suggestions thoughts etc. most reps on the phone can’t seem to figure this out. With my son being homed schooled this has become a big issue. I pay over $4,000 a year for cable and tv to comcast I feel like I deserve better

I don't know how this works, but my modem/router started getting slow 9 mbps. It is about 5 years old. Called comcast and they did their thing, no speeding up. Went to store and bought a new modem/router and connected it back up with the 2.4 ghz wifi thinking that it would be more stable etc., but was still only getting around 15 mbps. I switched it to the 5 ghz wifi and *BAM* 190 mbps. Not sure what is up with that, how internet provider can recognize your wifi ghz and throttle it so you have to go buy a new modem/router with 5 Ghz, unless it is some kind of interference I've been getting maybe hmmm. Anyway I can now stream 4k

Try removing SmartByte Optimizer if it's installed.  It worked for me.
