2.4 WiFi

I bought at security camera and a smart plug. Both will not work because my router is on the 5 Ghz band. How do I change this?

Thank you,

If you are using a Comcast rented gateway device, this may or may not apply anymore as a lot of features / functionality have / has been disabled.. YMMV.

If you are not using any Xfi Pods, you can try separating the combined 2.4 and the 5.0 bands and give them two different broadcast names / SSID's;

Associate the devices with the new 2.4 SSID (broadcast name) and password.

@EG Thank you for your reply. It was very helpful! One thing though. I noticed when going to the Router admin page that there are connected devices on both the 2.4 and 5 bands. Does this mean that my bands are split? Also, why will these new devices not work?

Thank you!

@jamesr2603 Thank you for contacting us here at the Xfinity Community Forums regarding connecting your wireless camera and smart plug to your home network. You may follow the instruction provided by @EG for splitting the wifi bands between 2.4 and 5 if you have not already, but to answer your questions most newer Xfinity gateways utilize a feature called 'band steering' which combines both wireless channels and uses technology to automatically determine the optimal network to connect to per device while using one network name and password still. You can find more detailed information about this at https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/benefits-same-wifi-network-password-name-xfi-gateway You will know this is active if your Wireless settings only show a singular Wifi network name and password instead of two (one for 2.4 and one for 5)

May I ask what brand the camera and smart plug are and what exact issues you are having when attempting to add them to the network? Have you already attempted to follow any of the steps provided above?

I no longer work for Comcast.

The Smart Plug is made By Broadlink. The Camera has no Manufacture's name on it. On the box, it has "Wifi Panoramic Camera. When I get to the step where it says to attach it to the WiFi network, I get a message stating that this device requires a 2.4 GHz connection. The only Wireless connection that shows up on my Settings app is a 2.4 GHz band. No, I have not tried yet. I will try right away and get back to you. Thank you for your help!

@jamesr2603 I have tried to separate the channels. But, I do not see the proper info on the Router admin page. I looked on the bottom of my router and it looks like that I have a XF router. Does this mean that I won't be able to change the WiFi settings?
