2.4 GHZ stopped working 5.0 still transmits

Our 2.4 connection does not connect to the internet today. The 5.0 is fine, but not having the 2.4 is an issue for some devices like our smart thermostat & getting a signal in other parts of the house. We have multiple devices that cannot connect to wifi today.

Hello @lmdwoodlands! Can you tell me what troubleshooting steps you have tried so far to correct this issue? For example, taking advantage of the troubleshooting features in the Xfinity App.

@lmdwoodlands

The two WiFi bands SSID's have recently been combined into one with the Comcast gateway devices. Some devices get confused and don't know how to see / talk to combined SSID's.

If you are not using any Xfi Pods, you can try separating the 2.4 and the 5.0 names and give them two different broadcast names / SSID's;

Associate the devices with the new 2.4 (broadcast name) and password.

@EG The SSID's can be different but don't the passwords have to be the same? I have the opposite problem I can't get out of 2.4 or slower speeds.

We have a device that requires the 2.4 band but it’s gone. We use a pod to extend coverage. How can I have that one device connect to 2.4?

As implied. If you are going to use their pods, you can't separate the bands. They must be combined or the pods won't be able to function.

The official answer from Comcast can't be "if you have xpods you can't have 2.4 ghz".  they need to give us a solution that works.  there are a TON of devices that can ONLY work on 2.4 ghz

Hello @srudoff, Pods require that you only have one WiFi network name and password. Your network still has both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio bands, but now your Gateway will sort out the best connection at any given time for your devices. Keep in mind, you may need to reconnect devices to your WiFi name and password, if they were previously connected to a name designated for a single radio band.

The answer is indeed that the channels cannot be separated if you are using pods. If you need separate bands, then you must either ditch the pods, or buy your own hardware.

@NoNoBadPuppy actually, Comcast has now made it so you can’t change channels even without pods.  I can no longer get new smart bulbs or devices to register    Cust service is little it no help - they blame the device.
