2.4 Ghz dual band connection

I currently have the XFi CGM4331COM modem which has dual band. 

When setting up the system, it states to name both bands the same name and to have the same password because the gateway optimizes via band steering.  

My problem is that I am trying to setup some smart home devices which require 5 GHz, but I can't pick and choose.  What do you recommend to do with this issue?
