20 devices connected to my gateway even though I JUST plugged it in for the first time
I just signed up for xfinity two days ago, went and picked up my equipment and plugged it all in according to instruction.
I quickly noticed that there about 20 devices listed as connected to my gateway even though I only have my (1) cell phone, (1) laptop, and (2) gaming consoles - both with cable direct-connection. That’s a total of (4) devices that it should only have because I JUST got service, and I JUST got my equipment.
I didn’t understand quite understand so I chose to ignore it until today; I was browsing on my laptop when suddenly a quick trip to fast.com to check my download speed resulted in being told my connection wasn’t safe/secure.
I went to my app and everything looked fine but the amount of “connections” just didn’t (and still doesn’t) sit right with me.
so I started pausing anything I didn’t recognize.
after pausing about 3 connections suddenly my internet isn’t feeding to ANY of my things, my laptop is getting no connection, my phone is getting no connection, and neither of my consoles plugged directly in with Ethernet cables are getting any connection
I unpaused all the connections I’d tried pausing but it didn’t change anything.
I restarted the modem/gateway completely and it didn’t change anything.
my app SAYS that my device is “fine” and there’s no outages in my area yet it also recognizes that it isn’t “working properly.”
I just want my internet to be working again and I want all these unknown connections GONE because there is absolutely no reason they should have been there in the first place - I JUST signed up for xfinity and JUST connected my equipment for the first time - the only devices that should be connected to my private home network are my private home devices, not this 20+ unknown things plus these “10 devices not connected” since the end of May - this should all be gone so someone like me doesn’t somehow screw up their entire home connection over trying to do some Inter-app cleanup/organizing.

Just a thought. Neighbors may be connecting to your home network via MoCA coincidently or deliberately. If the MoCA feature is enabled, and you do not have a POE (Point Of Entry) MoCA filter installed on the coax line, yours, and your neighbor's gateway devices will be able to connect with each other like one big network. Disable it if you aren't using it. If you are using it, install a POE MoCA filter to keep the signal in your premises and to keep the neighbor's signals out. Your neighbors should also have POE filters installed.
I'm not sure if this method still works. YMMV. To disable MoCA on your device go to the gateway login http://10.0.0.1
Default login info is:
Username: admin (all lowercase)
Password: password
Once in you will find the drop-down on the left of the screen that is labeled “Connections”.
Click the drop down---> click MoCA---> right side of screen click “disable”---> save changes.
If you are using it, install a POE MoCA filter to keep the signal in your premises and to keep the neighbor's signals out;

Good luck !

@SweetenedMax
Okay so we've seen many posts here that the MoCA feature gets turned back on with their overnight re-boots / updates for the device. The best policy is to be sure to use that POE filter.
