2 gbps plan but only getting 1.3 gbps

I’m on the 2 Gbps plan using my own Motorola MB8611 modem. On the modem’s status page I only see 34 downstream bonded channels (DOCSIS 3.0), and no OFDM downstream channel listed. My speedtests top out at about 1.3 Gbps.

Since DOCSIS 3.0 tops out around 1.3 Gbps, it looks like my modem hasn’t been provisioned for DOCSIS 3.1 / OFDM. Can you check if:

  1. My account has the correct DOCSIS 3.1 config file pushed to the modem.

  2. My local node actually supports OFDM downstream channels for the 2 Gbps plan.

  3. If not, what upgrade timeline exists for my area?”

The cable from the modem to the router is 6e, the router is a TP-Link Deco BE63, and the cable from the router to the ethernet in my desktop is also 6e.  The ethernet is Killer E3100G 2.5 Gigabit.

Thanks for posting on our Community Forums, user_xnjbui. Unfortunately, we’re unable to configure DOCSIS 3.1 remotely. The only way to upgrade would be to replace your current device with one that supports DOCSIS 3.1. For more information on which devices are compatible with our services, you can visit us HERE.

As pointed out, the modem already supports docsis 3.1, so I am not sure what the issue is.  It would seem to be on your end.

user_xnjbui Thanks for reaching out and providing detailed information about your setup — that’s very helpful.

You're absolutely right that DOCSIS 3.0 typically maxes out around 1.3 Gbps, and your Motorola MB8611 is indeed a DOCSIS 3.1-capable modem. However, based on what you’re seeing (34 bonded DOCSIS 3.0 channels and no OFDM downstream), it appears your modem may not be fully utilizing DOCSIS 3.1 features at this time. I'm happy to take a closer look into your services, and see what the next best step will be to getting you closer to the speeds you are subsribing to. Please send a Direct Message with your name, and service address. I look forward to working with you today!

A few things to clarify:

  1. Provisioning: While your modem supports DOCSIS 3.1, it’s not currently on our enhanced device list for full support with the 2 Gbps plan. This means it may not be receiving the correct DOCSIS 3.1 config file or taking advantage of OFDM channels, which are essential for speeds above 1.3 Gbps.
  2. Local Node Capability: It’s possible your local node doesn’t yet support OFDM downstream channels, or the modem isn’t negotiating them properly.
  3. Upgrade Timeline: If OFDM isn’t currently available at your node, we’ll check on any planned upgrades and share the expected timeline for your area.

As you would know if you had bothered to check, the MB8611 IS a DOCSIS 3.1 device!

Could you post the downstream channel stats? I've never heard of a modem showing more than 32 downstream channels unless two of them were OFDM.
